Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.
Here is the rundown of what Indians players in winter ball did yesterday.
Venezuelan Winter League
- Ezequiel Carrera (LF, Navegantes del Magallanes): 1-for-2, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 SB. Carrera had a very nice night on Tuesday and perhaps the best part for him was the fact that Navegantes del Magallanes defeated Cardenales de Lara 7-3 to tie the series at 3-3 and force a game seven. Carrera has now gone 52-for-192 this winter (.271), and has definitely been a key cog in Navegantes del Magallanes’ winter success. If his team is able to win tonight, then Carrera will find himself in the Caribbean Series, which seems to be a solid reward considering the strong winter season that he’s had.
Note on Jose Ramirez
Speaking of the Caribbean Series, it looks as if Carrera won’t be the only Indian represented if Navegantes del Magallanes wins tonight. We already knew of Rob Bryson’s inclusion, but is has now been announced that second baseman Jose Ramirez will be added to the Leones del Escogido roster as a “reinforcement.” This is certainly exciting news for Ramirez as well as Indians fans in general since the switch-hitting infielder has been such an intriguing player to follow. Ramirez will not only be a part of Leones del Escogido, but there is also a report that he will start at second base and hit second for the repeat champs of the Dominican Winter League. Gotta hand it to Leones del Escogido as they go themselves quite a “reinforcement” for the Caribbean Series. Now, wouldn’t it be nice if the American game were played that way? Leones del Escogido is also attempting to repeat as Caribbean Series champs, and they may have just increased their chances significantly.
