Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.
Here is the rundown of what Indians players in winter ball did yesterday. The Australian Baseball League was off on Wednesday.
Venezuelan Winter League
- Asdrubal Cabrera (SS, Leones del Caracas): 1-for-4, 1 BB, 1 K. Not an outstanding performance by Cabrera, but at least he was able to still muster one base knock. The switch-hitting shortstop has now gone 28-for-94 this winter. It’s a much better performance than Cabrera has had in either of the previous past two winter seasons, so that has to be considered a positive with spring training looming.
- Ezequiel Carrera (LF, Navegantes del Magallanes): 1-for-4, 2 K. After a rare day off on Tuesday, Carrera was back at it on Wednesday and collected one hit. Carrera has now gone 44-for-158 this winter.
Dominican Winter League
- Jose Ramirez (2B, Toros del Este): 1-for-4, R, 2 K. Unfortunately, Ramirez’s time in winter leagues may be drawing to a close. His team, Toros del Este trailed Leones del Escogido by one game with two games left to play heading into Wednesday’s contest. Unfortunately for Ramirez, Leones del Escogido defeated Toros del Este 4-3 on Wednesday. Ramirez may have one final swan song on Thursday. Let’s hope he makes it a memorable one. It’s rare to see a player make so much noise in a winter season, but Ramirez has done just that.
