Around the Farm: December 11, 2012

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in fall and winter ball did yesterday. Note, the Australian Baseball League was off on Tuesday and one Puerto Rican Winter League games were postponed.

Dominican Winter League All-Star Game

  • Jose Ramirez (LIDOM All-Stars): 0-for-1, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Ramirez’s appearance in the All-Star Game is certainly well-deserved as he has gone 37-for-110 in 31 games this winter in the DWL. On Tuesday, he managed to get on base and score a run, which he something he’s done a lot of this winter as he’s totaled 20 runs scored so far.
  • Ezequiel Carrera (LVBP All-Stars): 1-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Like Ramirez, Carrera has also had a splendid winter campaign, which makes him a worthy All-Star selection. Overall, the left-handed hitting Carrera has gone 20-for-72 in 19 games with 12 runs scored and six stolen bases.

Puerto Rican Winter League

  • Giovanni Soto (RP, Gigantes de Carolina): 1 1/3 IP, 1 BB, 2 K. Soto has really become an impressive story this winter in the PWL. Aside from allowing two earned runs in his second appearance, Soto has nearly been flawless this winter. Overall, the left-hander has posted a 1.54 ERA eight games and 11 2/3 innings of work. He has also struck out 15 batters while walking eight.
