Around the Farm: October 12, 2012

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Arizona Fall League

  • Alex Monsalve (C): 0-for-4, 2 K. After recording a hit and an RBI in Wednesday’s contest, Monsalve went hitless on Friday. Monsalve put up okay numbers between Lake County and Carolina this past season (.256/.311/.373), but hopefully the time in Arizona will get him prepared to have an even stronger 2013.
  • Shawn Armstrong (RP): 1 2/3 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 2 K. Armstrong struggled a bit as he needed 47 pitches to make it through 1 2/3 innings, and he also allowed plenty of base runners. However, he still allowed zero runs, which is a testament to his ability to pitch in key situations. He has yet to allow an earned run in his 2 2/3 innings in Arizona this fall.

Venezuela Winter League

  • Jesus Aguilar (1B): 2-for-4, 1 2B. Aguilar was the only player on his team to record double-digit hits on Friday. Hopefully the performance is a sign of more good things to come from the right-handed slugger.
  • Hector Rondon (RP): (L, 0-1), 1/3 IP, 2 H, 4 R/ER, 2 BB. It really does not get much uglier than this. Rondon made his first appearance this fall in the Venezuela Winter League, and the result was obviously one that he would rather have back. His ERA after the debacle? 108.00.
